'Not bad', Sentrosi thought as he walked toward the Sunagakure training grounds. This was the start of his career as a ninja. His family had argued over his decision to become one, but caved eventually. It shouldn't have been a complete surprise, Sentrosi thought, as his uncle had recently been betrayed by one of his own bodyguards. Ryo was not useful, if you could not hold onto it. People always fawned over the rich, praying for handouts. Some took more direct approaches, rather than giving them a choice of giving it away, tried to take it themselves. Sentrosi did not like the idea that he would be so defenseless, and had insisted on training in the 'Hidden' village of the Sand. Money bought knowledge, he guessed. It was not as if the average person would have known where to find it.
But, now that he was here, his new life began. Having been indoors most of his life, Sentrosi kind of liked the change of pace the dirt training grounds provided. It was a sign of how things would change. Rather than inside, in spotlessly clean rooms where he would study books, it would be outside in the heat and sweat would show his progress. He was not sure how he would like it, but he could not stand the idea of being dependent on money for protection.
His first class at the Academy began later that day. Sentrosi didn't have his hopes high for the lesson. The first one rarely taught the class anything useful. But in time, he was sure he would learn insanely cool magic type techniques. Rumors about the monstrous, non human things ninja could do were told everywhere in all reaches of the Land of Wind.
One thing his father had taught him, was to be mindful of everything around you. Any little thing out of place could cause disaster. Sentrosi took the lesson to heart after his uncle's death. He supposed that teaching was not limited to the business world. The shadows of the birds fluttering overhead, the direction of the wind, the heat of the cruel sun. Every little detail counted. If half the rumors of the ninja were true, he knew it was essential to know what all was happening around you precisely when it was happening.
Sentrosi turned at the sound of footsteps behind him, and saw an older man striding towards him. He noted the length of his step, and slight bend in his right knee causing a minor limp.
"Hello, Mr. Hayati. I am the Academy Sensei. I heard you will begin taking classes today?"......
